Lugano

Post-Bernese Oberland, we went to the only place in Switzerland forecasted to have nice weather for the next couple days: Ticino. Our last minute plan worked out suprisingly well; we got a relatively (for Switzerland) cheap room in a hostel and had beautiful weather the whole time, while the rest of the country got rained on. It was my first time visiting the canton, and I was surprised just how much it felt like a different country, minus the Migros and Coop stores.

Monte Brè from shores of Lugano

San Salvatore and Lugano from summit of Monte Brè

We took a bus to Brè Sopra Lugano, then walked to the summit itself. The bus back doesn't run often at all though, so we walked down to Gandria.

Narrow street in Gandria

Gandria was adorable, a tiny little mediterranean-ish town hugging the mountain while dipping its toes in the lake.

Gandria from water

Our timing in Gandria (the town in the picture) coincided nicely with the departure of the ferry back to Lugano, so we took the scenic way back. Monte Brè is the bump on the left.

Half-way there.

Unknown mountain

An unknown but very aesthetic mountain we passed on the way back to Zürich.

Niderbauen Chulm and Oberbauenstock

I think these are the Niderbauen Chulm and Oberbauenstock, across the Urnersee from us.
