Big McGee Lake
A few friends and I went out for a quick two-day adventure up to Big McGee Lake, with aspirations of making it up to Red Slate Mountain if time and energy permitted it. One of our group got some nasty altitude sickness most of the way up though, so it ended up being a single day trip. The valley was super pretty, and I'll definitely be coming back, if only to try and follow in the footsteps of all the trail runners who passed us on the way up.
Easily one of the nicest peaks I've seen; in the spring, the brown leaves to the bottom right are bright yellow flowers.
Looking back-ish from along the switchbacks up to Big McGee Lake, and about where half our party turned around. Because some people had gone ahead and we didn't bring walkie-talkies, I got to run up to Big McGee Lake to let them know we were going back down (and I mean that as a positive! I was planning to run a little anyways, so I was more than happy to do it).
Peak we skirt around to get to Big McGee Lake, with Red Slate Mountain peeking out at the back left.
A meadow before reaching the lake, with what I think is Red White Mountain behind it.
Looking west from Minerat Vista (detour on the way home) to see where we went when hiking Thousand Island Lake back in 2022.
Milky way at night from our campsite at McGee Creek.
